Recommendations for a healthy and refreshing rest

Spine and cervical problems have been experienced by almost everybody at any point in their lives.

This type of problems cause a large number of visits to the doctor and elevated costs in terms of medical treatment, work time loss and other costs such as the dimished capacity to do or enjoy daily activities.

The Spine

The spine is the most important part of our postural system. It provides a firm and flexible support due to its system of muscles and vertebrae, and the discs inserted between them.

These discs work as a shock absorber, absorbing the pressure produced by posture, movement or effort.

Throughout the day, while we are standing a pressure is produced on the vertebrae and the discs, which are compressed, recovering their thickness during the rest.

Muscles allow us to make efforts and movements, they also help to keep the spine anatomy. Due to this, it is important for the respose base to be of a great quality and to allow, at the same time, a refreshing rest and a perfect support for our spine.

The Mattress

The mattress on which you rest must be firm and straight, with the right density so it can adapt to our body.

It is advisable to rest on a large bed , what will allow us to change posture easily and to prevent from adopting forced postures that may damage our spine.

The healthiest and most natural posture for a good rest is the one that keeps the healthy physiologic rachis curvatures and would neither force nor rotate them.

The Pillow

It is very important to sleep with the right pillow, the one that adjusts to the way we rest and will produce the most refreshing effect. If we sleep face up, the pillow should be low and soft, so it can ensure that our spine will keep its natural physiological configuration during the rest.

If we sleep on our side, the pillow should be thicker and quite rigid so it can keep our neck in the axis that its bones form with the dorsal vertebrae, ensuring that this axis will not decay or rotate. Snoring can be reduced by using a pillow that will elevate both our head and shoulders at the same time, what will facilitate breathing and a flow of air free from obstacles. In this case, we should sleep on our side rather than face up.
